An Unoriginal Cinderella Bun

Cinderella is one of the most iconic Disney Princesses ever! Her story, kindness, and incomparable, blue dress has made her popular among little ones. With a big, blue dress comes great responsibility and a burden... the Cinderella bun. That thing can be astounding to look at or your worst nightmare, kind of like originality. Let me share a train of thought with you and, hopefully, inspire you to seek originality rather than replicas in your company.

When I started out my company, I wanted to be a replica of the animated version of the characters, so I started out with this catastrophic bun (left). My little head thought that the higher the bun, the more legit I'd look to clients and they would book me... needless to say, I was wrong.
I quickly discovered that, as much as we want to maintain character integrity and look just like the animated princesses, looking like a cartoon is not remotely possible without a ton of surgery and money. That's a no go.
So I started experimenting with what my company characters should look like within my budget. After a year and a half of searching, I decided my characters would look like the park replicas and I took the 3 hour venture of changing up my Cinderella bun into a nice donut (below). It looked alright and served its purpose, but I wanted more... it didn't feel right.

Recently, I purchased the Comb Society Membership from TheCharmedComb (100% recommend) and I spent 2 weeks learning, understanding and trying to style a Cinderella bun just like hers. There was a lot of frustration, sweat, and attempts of giving up on the thing. Yesterday, I managed to put the whole thing together and something was, again, off. I thought, "How can it be? I invested in high quality coaching to be an exact park replica; what am I doing wrong?"... my brain was doing something wrong. I knew in my heart that the bun had never looked how I wanted it to look because I was too busy finding inspiration somewhere else instead of in me. My company has never been a park or animated version replica... it has a bit of both and lots of character integrity and company originality! I had spent so much time trying to copy everything else that I forgot what I wanted; now, my bun is finished and it looks just like I want it to look (stay tuned for pics).
I want you all to learn and understand that, while characters do look a certain way and there's a character integrity we must follow to accurately give the characters justice, there is no rule that says that you can't sprinkle a bit of uniqueness here and there. Lots of princesses rely on coaches to tell them exactly what to do but I am not like that; I give you the tools, resources, and knowledge to reach that full royal potential, but it is up to you to give it your own magic. Think magically practical in every way! A Cinderella bun is a high bun, with an elegant look and bangs... there's a million ways to do that, same as there's a million ways to do everything else!
